After a successful career as a jump jockey (winning back-to-back Hennessy Gold Cups in 1986 and 1987), Paul started training in 1991 at Ditcheat, Somerset. Paul Nicholls Racing is now one of the most individually successful training establishments in the country and has seen over 2,900 winners pass through its gates, including four Cheltenham Gold Cup winners and eight King George VI chase winners as well as collecting ten Champion Trainers’ titles. Paul has trained multiple superstars such as the phenomenal Kauto Star, who won a record-breaking five King George's and is the only horse to have regained his Gold Cup crown, four-time World Hurdle winner Big Bucks, two time winning Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Master Minded, and the mighty Denman, twice winner of the now Ladbrokes Trophy and imperious victor of the 2008 Gold Cup.

Paul's more recent notable string includes the 2017 Tingle Creek winner Politilogue and the extremely popular Black Corton. Paul has now sent out an incredible 43 Cheltenham Festival winners. A Saturday doesn't go by in the winter months without Paul having a big race winner and there is no one who sets the bar higher.

Highclere Thoroughbred Racing is delighted to have links with such a successful trainer. Paul has handled Danse Idol, Posh Trish and If You Say Run for Highclere, each useful mares that have enjoyed extremely successful careers to date. Danse Idol has won twice over hurdles and finished second in Listed and Grade 2 hurdles, Posh Trish has won six races included a Listed bumper at Cheltenham and two Listed hurdles, while If You Say Run has won five times and been placed numerous times in Listed and Graded events. HTR is looking forward to the season ahead, and to many more successes with Team Ditcheat.
